Throughout your journey inMetaphor: ReFantazio, you’ll explore a selection of major towns and cities that will be the hubs of each arc of the main story. However, in between these main hubs are smaller settlements, mini-dungeons, and spectacles that are completely optional and can easily be missed if you aren’t paying attention to every side quest.
The best way to see every location in Metaphor: ReFantazio is to consult the informant in every town before and after accepting side quests, as they will sometimes give you the location of an area you otherwise can’t access. There are even some locations that you will stumble upon accidentally on your way to a different destination, so what areas should you look out for?
7Manor Of The Ascendant
Brilehaven Region
During the mid/late-game of Metaphor: ReFantazio, side quests will appear not just in Grand Trad, but all over the previously explored hub towns, and these are easy to miss if you aren’t backtracking to look out for them.
One of these later-game side quests will take you to the Manor of the Ascendant, an abandoned manor house found on an island south of Brilehaven. Since it’s one of the later mini-dungeons, you may expect some challenging enemies, and even a bounty hidden here too, but it’s all worth it thanks to the experience and the loot you’ll find.
6Ligno
The Altabury arc of Metaphor: ReFantazio’s story breaks the mold compared to the rest of the game since a lot of the side quests you receive here will not be hosted in the Altabury region, and will instead task you with heading back to other areas.
One of the best examples of this is a bounty that is all the way back in the Grand Trad region, but on the way to the bounty location you’ll stumble upon the beautiful port town of Ligno. This marketplace is unique compared to the others since it sells some amazing equipment, but it’s all incredibly expensive, so if you want to buy anything you’ll need to have some deep pockets.
5Disgraced Ruins
Outer Region
The Disgraced Ruins is anotheroptional mini-dungeonthat is hidden all the way in the northern part of the map, and it hides one of the hardest bounties to complete in the game. The dungeon is very hard to navigate thanks to all the different levels, but if you are careful to comb through all of it, you’ll find some of the best loot available in one of the many chest rooms.
When you finally make it to the bounty in the last chamber, you’ll have to not only take down the actual target of the bounty, but then also the human monster that your target was trying to control. This back-to-back boss rush is incredibly challenging, but it’ll net you one of the highest bounty rewards in the game for completing it.
4Malva
Altabury Region
Since the side quests you’ll get in Altabury mostly send you to other parts of the map, it makes the town of Malva stand out for being one of the few settlements that is in the region aside from the main city.
In spite of it being one of the few others signs of civilization outside of Altabury Heights, there really isn’t much going on in Malva aside from the scenery. There is a vendor like most other towns, and you can pick up some rarer items and ingredients, as well as complete a quest too. While it isn’t the most unique hidden area, it’s relatively easy to gloss over.
3Sporico Cave
Virga Island Region
Every now and then throughout Metaphor: ReFantazio, you’ll stop your journey on the Gauntlet Runner to pause and take in the natural beauty of the area which you are traveling through. A lot of these sights will be along your main route, but others are only viewable when you’re on your way to an optional quest location.
One of these that is hidden quite far out of the way in the Virga Island region is Sporico Cave. This multicolored marvel will prompt some unique dialogue where your party members will try andhold Hulkenberg backfrom trying to eat all of the unique and potentially dangerous mushrooms hidden in the cave.
2Silento
It’s easy to get distracted from the side quests when traveling around Virga Island thanks to just how much there is to keep you busy on the main hub. However, if you’re going out of your way to complete all of the sidequests in this area, then you’ll likely come across Silento.
You get a stunning view of this unique island town which seems to have more going on than originally meets the eye, but for your group of travelers, you only get to visit the shop (with some useful archetype XP boosting items) and will need to be on your way after a quick restock.
1Mt. Vulkano
One of the last mini-dungeons you’ll have access to nearer the end of Metaphor: ReFantazio is Mt. Vulkano, and what makes it stand out from the other optional areas is just how much there is to do here.
Before entering the dungeon, make sure you have accepted both of the quests that can be completed at this flaming gauntlet (one of which requiresprogressing Eupha’s bond). Not only will a trip to this dungeon complete a couple of quests, but the challenging enemies and heaps of treasure chests will ensure your effort is well-rewarded.
