Pokemon TCG’s Crystal Guardians set was released in 2006 and focused on the secret city of Holon. This is home to many rare and valuable Pokemon such as the Delta Species, which mix up their types for some serious advantage. There are also unique Star Pokemon that are hard to find inside the packs.
With so many rare Pokemon in this set, collectors weigh the risk of opening a sealed pack of Crystal Guardians to see if they can hit anything good. So before you risk it all, you should see the lineup. These are the eight most valuable cards you’re able to pull from Crystal Guardians.
Cards values depicted reflect their market value on TCGplayer.com and may be subject to change with time.
8Delcatty Ex $72.50
A Delicate Guardian
Evolving from the ever-adorable Skitty is Delcatty ex. This card has some very pretty artwork that captures the whole crystal aesthetic of Crystal Guardians. It has a sparkling holo border as well as those familiar holo spots that bubble all around the Pokemon’s card art.
The Pokemon TCG has no limit to how many cards you can have in hand at any one time. Delcatty ex though, punishes players who draw too deep into their deck. With the Poke Power Constrain, you can force both players to discard cards until they only have six in hand. So your opponent better watch out, or they might have to send something useful to the discard pile.
7Groudon Ex $76.21
Attack And Defend
Groudon ex isa valuable Groudon cardthat can be found in the Crystal Guardians set. Like many of the rare cards in this set, it too has a sparkling card border and holographic foiling. Groudon is one of the coolest legendaries, so it deserves this shininess.
Groudon ex has a Move and a Poke Body that synergize with one another. It takes three Energy for Groudon to use Power Blast. This deals 100 damage and discards two Energy for cost. Meanwhile, Hard Rock reduces all incoming damage by 20 when it only has one Energy card attached to it. So it’s a cycle of striking and defending.
6Sceptile Ex Delta Species $76.43
A Psychic Sceptile
The Delta Species Pokemonare some of the coolest cards in the Pokemon TCG. The whole gimmick revolves around having one Pokemon be a completely different type. In this case, Sceptile is a Psychic-type instead of a Grass-type.
Sceptile ex may be weak to both Grass and Fire cards, but the Poke Body makes up for it. Using Extra Liquid, Pokem Powers are nullified on both sides of the field and ex Pokemon need to pay an extra Colorless Energy to perform their Moves. This can be deadly when the whole strategy of a deck revolves around low-cost Moves. It’s just more setup for your opponent to deal with.
5Jirachi Ex $93.85
Make A Wish
Jirachi is known for granting wishes. So, if you wish for Moves to be less expensive, then Jirachi ex will make it come true. Star Light will reduce the cost of both of Jirachi ex’s Moves by one Colorless Energy if your opponent has any Pokemon ex or Stage two Pokemon in play.
Shield Beam also has the added effect of nullifying certain Poke Powers. This card is not only valuable for having gorgeous foiling and card art but also because it is a legendary Pokemon. These cards are always favorable, whether you’re a kid pulling it for the first time or a collector trying to bring together the most expensive cards of the set.
4Swampert Ex $110.48
A Powerful Starter Evolution
In an alternate universe, Swampert might not have existed, and a Stage two rabbit might have taken its place. Aside from being the final Evolution of a starter Pokemon, finding a well-maintained Swampert ex will always fetch a good price.
Its Energy Recycle Poke Power is fantastic for recovering Water Energy from the discard pile. Even if it does end your turn prematurely it was oncea great method of Energy acceleration. Ultra Pump allows you to discard two cards from your hand to do extra damage. It can even hit your opponent’s Benched Pokemon which is always a sweet deal.
3Charizard Delta Species $285.59
Another Valuable Charizard
It’s safe to say thatno matter what set Charizard is in, it will become a valuable carddue to how many players love this starter. This Charizard in particular showcases another train of Delta Species cards. Which is that Pokemon are dual types. This Charizard is Electric and Steel.
Besides having an electrifying card art, it also has a fantastic Poke Power that allows you to search the top five cards of your deck, attach any Energy that you find, and discard the rest. This is an amazing way of boosting Metal Burn when you first Evolve a Charmeleon into this titan of the Pokemon world.
2Alakazam Star $307.15
Mind Tricks To Blow Your Opponent Away
Alakazam Star is a special Pokemon. Not only is it one of the Star series of cards, but if you look closely, it also doesn’t have any Moves that do damage. This is because Skill Copy must first use a card from your hand to copy an attack.
This means that, theoretically, Alakazam Star can use any Pokemon Move under the sun as long as you have the card in hand to discard it. Luckily, its other Move, Psychic Select, allows you to reuse cards from the discard pile by putting them back into your hand. Truly, this Alakazam is the master of Psychic tricks.
1Celebi Star $332.01
The Most Valuable Card In Crystal Guardians
Celebi Star is the most expensive card you will find in the Crystal Guardians set. It also has a neat gimmick that allows it to turn back the clock on a knockout. Its Poke Power allows you to flip a coin if Celebi were to be knocked out. If you land on head, you can prevent this by discarding any attached card to Celebi and shuffling it back into the deck.
Leaf Shade lets you do as much damage as there is Energy attached to Celebi Star. This is a pretty neat trick when you spam Energy. However, this card finds itself to be expensive, not just due to its Star status, but because the Celebi portrayed is the shiny red variant.
