The Pokemon has two variants depending on if you found it in Galar or the original Kanto region. While Ponyta is far from the most powerful Pokemon, certain Ponyta cards are surprisingly expensive.

8Blaine’s Ponyta Gym Challenge $1.59
Giddy Up Gym Leader
Blaine’s Ponyta is a common card fromthe Gym Challenge era of the Pokemon TCG. This set was dedicated to giving the Gym Leaders of Kanto a bit of extra love with Pokemon from their teams getting new printings. This Ponyta has a stamp of Blaine from Cinnabar Island on the bottom right.
Be sure that this card has a first edition stamp on the center left corner. It has only one Move, which is Hind Kick. For two Energy, it does 20 damage and allows you to flip a coin. If you land on heads, you may switch Ponyta out for another Pokemon from your Bench. This makes for a very lucky getaway.
7Blaine’s Ponyta Gym Heroes $1.73
Double The Horse Power
Another one of Blaine’s Ponyta can be found inthe Gym Heroes set. This one is worth a little more than Blaine’s other Ponyta, and features a different art style and Move. This version of the card features Ponyta moving and supersonic speeds. It makes more sense when you read its Move.
For two Energy, Agility lets you do 20 damage and has a 50% chance of negating all damage done to it the next turn. The idea is that it is running so fast that your opponent’s Pokemon just can’t hit it. While not the most powerful card, it’s always neat when the card art and the Moves all tell a cohesive tale.
6Galarian Ponyta Sword And Shield $1.90
A Holo Treat
The Galar region introduced many new variants for older Pokemon. This time, Ponyta got a Psychic-type remake. This printing of Galarian Ponyta was released as a promo card during theSword and Shield era of the Pokemon TCG.
Setting it apart from its normal printing is the holographic foiling that can be found on the card art. If the foiling has a bubble-like pattern, then you know that you have the right one. For one Energy, Heal Pulse will heal 30 damage from one Pokemon. Meanwhile, Flop deals 20 damage for two Energy.
5Ponyta Aquapolis $2.25
More E-Reader Fun
The Aquapolis set of the Pokemon TCGis known for being released at the same time that the E-Reader was still alive. This device was capable of scanning different cards to unlock minigames, levels, and power-ups for different games. It’s all in the power of the card.
Ponyta from the Aquapolis has an E-Reader barcode along its border allowing you to scan it to get the Pokemon’s Pokedex entry. It’s a neat little gimmick that is shared among all Pokemon E-Reader printings. These cards were abundant in the Aquapolis set but over time, fewer remain in scannable conditions. So make sure to treat these cards with care.
4Galarian Ponyta General Mills Promo $3.76
A Prize In A Cereal Box
There does exist, a second promo card for Galarian Ponyta. This one is worth just a bit more due to it being pulled from cereal boxes instead of packs. Partnering with General Mills, these Ponyta could be found in specially marked boxes of their products.
While it does share the same stats and Moves as the standard Galarian Ponyta, the key difference is the way the holo foiling looks. It has a slightly different pattern that is most noticeable when tilting the card in the light. While the difference might seem miniscule, it does bump it up in price for the unique detailing.
3Galarian Ponyta Shining Fates $5.20
Most Elegant Ponyta
Pokemon Shining Fatescontains plenty of shiny Pokemon. These Pokemon often have vastly different color schemes than their original counterparts and, in the videogame community, drives shiny hunters to seek them out. In the Pokemon TCG shinies can be found in select packs.
One Pokemon that got a shiny printing is Galarian Ponyta. Rather than having the purplish cotton candy mane, it has a teal one instead. The card art is also mostly white, allowing all attention to be on the Pokemon itself. Galarian Ponyta has one Move called Psybolt. For one Energy, it does ten damage and has a 50% chance of leaving your opponent’s Pokemon Paralyzed.
2Ponyta Base Set $15.25
The Classic Printing
Before you go buythe original Base set of the Pokemon TCG. You might want to check what kind of box you have. The ones that are worth more are the shadowless boxes. These usually contain Pokemon cards where the art boxes do not have any sort of shadow along the edges.
The original Ponyta is a great example of this. This one is the first edition of the original card. It has a distinct red text for its HP. To ensure you have the right one, look at the art box. If the yellow border touches the red, you have a shadowless card. If there is a darker shadow that separates the two, you have a later printing.
1Ponyta Shiny Arceus $105.99
The Most Valuable Ponyta
Ponyta printings often don’t spike in price. However, one Ponyta manages to go up to triple digits. This is the Shiny Ponyta found in the Arceus set that was released during the time of Pokemon Platinum. This card has a reflective body as opposed to a holographic card art.
Instead of featuring the standard Ponyta, it features a shiny version that has blue flames. It also has a unique Move that goes well with its new look. Blue Fire does 50 damage for two Energy but forces you to discard all the Energy attached to it once you use it. The Star Barrier Poke-Body also makes it a durable Ponyta since it has no Weaknesses while it has Energy attached to it.
