While thePokemon TCGis full ofvaluable expansion sets to collect, certain promo releases are also desirable, like the Southern Islands set. This special promo set was originally released in Japanese to coincide with the release of the second Pokemon Movie (Pokemon 2000 a.k.a. The Power of One). This version included two promo folders with nine cards per set.

The English version was released with all 18 cards in the set in a single folder and also added three booster packs and postcards to the bundle. These gorgeous promo cards all feature the same rarity, though some have a reverse holo pattern, while others are similar to regular Rare cards. These adorable Kantonian Pokemon headline the most valuable cards in the Southern Islands.

The Southern Islands Vileplume from the Pokemon TCG.

However, sale prices differ depending on the card’s condition,so this market price is just a rough idea of the card’s value.

8Jigglypuff – $21.74

A Sweet Puff Ball

Jigglypuff is one of the most valuable cards you’ll find in the Southern Islands promo set, even though it’s one of the simpler designs thatdoesn’t feature the glimmering reverse holo pattern.Despite this key visual difference, Jigglypuff’s popularity bolsters its price.

Despite a steady drop in price from $25 to just under $22, Jigglypuff remains one of the most sought-after cards from the promo set. Heavily Played(HP)cards start at $11.67, with moderately played(MP)copies at $13.75, followed by lightly played(LP)at about $17. Near-mint(NM)copies carry a small premium and can hit highs of$24.99 in the best condition.

The Southern Islands Lapras from the Pokemon TCG.

7Vileplume (Reverse Holo) – $22.04

A Glimmering Pair

Southern Islands is best known for including multiple Pokemon in each card’s art, giving us wonderful slice-of-life depictions of twins like these two Vileplume.

The Southern Islands Wartortle from the Pokemon TCG.

Damaged copies start as low as five dollars, followed by MP cards at $7.50 and LP jumping into the $12 range. Unsurprisingly, theNMcopies are rare andcan command up to $25.69 at its peak.

6Lapras – $22.38

Shining On Its Own

Lapras doesn’t need the brilliant reverse holo pattern to beat out Vileplume as one of the most valuable cards from the Southern Islands, withLapras' unparalleled popularity playing a massive role in its high price. While missing out on the reverse holo hurts its value, the innocent Dratini in the background helps to compensate.

This card can still fetch about ten dollars even in damaged condition, as HP cards will only earn about 25 cents more, with MP cards only getting as high as $14. LP copies are still close to MP, only getting as high as $17, whileNMcards make a big jump into the$25 range, getting as high as $26.

The Southern Islands Marill from the Pokemon TCG.

5Wartortle – $22.97

Friends Playing In The Water

Wartortle rarely gets its time in the spotlight, as Squirtle and Blastoise are featured far more often than their middle evolution. Despite Wartortle’s awkward spot as the middle child of sorts, Wartortle finds a friend in Horsea, who helps create a sweet moment between the two.

Horsea’s presence is essential in helping Wartortle claim a spot in the top five, as it barely edges in front of its peer, Lapras. The range for this card is a bit wider than Lapras', as damaged copies start as low as seven dollars, butNM copies can catapult toward $30.

The Southern Islands Slowking from the Pokemon TCG.

4Marill (Reverse Holo) – $30.95

A Sunny Day With Magikarp

Marill puts the reverse holo pattern back on the menu, as this small blue Water-type Pokemon appears alongside Magikarp in this magnificent scene in the sun. Marill flails with joy in midair as it jumps in excitement, while Magikarp mimics Marill’s mood.

Marill opens up a healthy lead on Wartortle, taking us into the $30 range, withNM copies sometimes hitting heights of $35.However, if you just want to own the card in any condition, this card is fairly cheap, as you can typically buydamaged copies for under seven dollars.

The Southern Islands Togepi from the Pokemon TCG.

Get In Line

Slwoking stands tall as one of the three most expensive cards from the Southern Islands, as this magnificent depiction of Slowpoke’s evolution is joined by Bellsprout and Psyduck to form an adorably goofy trio.

The purple reverse holo pattern is the perfect complement to this card’s bright scene.

The Mew from Southern Islands in the Pokemon TCG.

This card is experiencing small rises over time, as itfinished at around $35 in 2023before finding its footing in 2024 and soaring into the $37 range. While this jump may not sound staggering, thecontinued positive price momentum is indicative of this card’s high demand.

2Togepi (Reverse Holo) – $45.78

More Than Just An Egg

Togepi takes the spotlight from Slowking and its friends, as this colorful egg Pokemon enjoys a calming stroll across the Southern Islands.

Togepi looks up with a smile on its face asits friends Bulbasaur and Pikachu play in the background, though both Pokemon are partially cut out of the frame.

Togepi has seen even more momentum building for it than Slowking, as this Pokemon once sat below the $39 mark, but continues to rise, as itnow sits north of $45.NM sales can exceed this price, fetching up to $50 in some cases, though you can find LP copies for as little as $22 if you want a clean card, but you don’t require perfection.
