Starter Pokemon stand out as some of the most beloved in thePokemon TCG, and with only three options to choose from in each generation, it’s no surprise to see certain favorites stand out. Typhlosion is easily one of the most popular starter Pokemon and features several stunning cards in some ofthe most valuable vintage Pokemon TCG setsever.
With offerings dating back to the Neo-era sets, Typhlosion has seen it all and appeared in numerous sets, but some of its earliest cards are its best. However, Typhlosion tends to double-dip, appearing with multiple cards in the same set, which is important to note for its Neo Genesis appearance.
Cards are ordered according to theirTCGPlayerMarket Price, which you might pay on average for a copy of the(first edition, where applicable)cards below.
Given the age and rarity of these cards, onlythose with anestablished market price on TCGplayerare included.
However, sale prices differ depending on the card’s condition,so this market price is just a rough idea of the card’s value.
6Typhlosion: Unseen Forces (Holo Rare) – $65.39
A Great Start For A Power Pair
The first Typhlosion among its most valuable cards is an epic action shot of this Fire-type starter as it battles ferociously with an unseen opponent.
Unseen Forcesis one of the two sets that feature two different Typhlosion variations, withNeo Genesisbeing the other.
This card comes in both aholoand areverse holoversion, with the former selling for noticeably more in various conditions. The reverse holo commands a maximum of $43 in near-mint(NM)condition, while the same condition commands closer to$60 for the holo version.
5Typhlosion Ex: Sandstorm (Ultra Rare) – $73.39
In A Dark Storm
Sandstorm is a set that typically lurks in the shadows among popular vintage offerings, much like the depiction of Typhlosion ex, as its dark red flames barely illuminate the darkness. However, this card is much easier to appreciate in person, as some extralighting and closer inspection reveal the ferocious details on Typhlosion’s face.
This card is available across the condition spectrum, with prices starting at $12 for a damaged copy, with heavily played(HP)cards commanding $24, while moderately played(MP)copies fetch about $35. If you’re looking for the nicest card you’re able to find, then lightly played(LP)is a solid option for $50, though the bestNM cards will cost you closer to $70if you only collect the best.
4Typhlosion Ex: Unseen Forces (Ultra Rare) – $76.99
Like You’ve Never Seen
Unseen Forces boasts a valuable roster of cards, some of which can easily surpass Typhlosion, though it’s hard to compete with this ferocious portrayal of the Fire-type starter Pokemon. While we’ve seen some intimidating depictions thus far, this ex from Unseen Forces takes the cake and even toutsa terrific look at Typhlosion’s flaming collar.
Luckily, this card is fairly affordable if you’re willing to compromise on its condition, as it should cost about $26 in HP condition, while MP copies are slightly more expensive at $34.LPandNMcards leapfrog lesser conditions by a significant margin, with theformer reaching heights of $54 with the latter soaring to $77.
3Typhlosion: Expedition (Holo Rare) – $102.64
A Focus On Brilliant Flames
Typhlosion toutsone of Expedition’s most expensive offerings,as this set is packed with fantastic portrayals of some of the most popular starter Pokemon, including Blastoise and Charizard. While Typhlosion can never hope to equal some of those all-time favorites, it still gives an excellent showing with this crisp art.
Thereverse holoversion of this card is much cheaper than the holo version, with a perfectNM copy failing to eclipse the $16 mark. However, the holo version is where the money is, shooting up to over $100 in NM condition, dropping to the$60 to $80 range in LP condition, offering a solid discount.
2Typhlosion 18: Neo Genesis First Edition (Holo Rare) – $194.99
The Second-Favorite Twin
Typhlosion makes a landmark appearance amongthe best cards in Neo Genesis, as card number 18 takes home runner-up honors, losing out to its legendary twin from the same set. However, this zoomed-out view of Typhlosion offers a full view of the Fire-type in all its scorching glory.
First edition copies of this Typhlosion still command a major premium over the unlimited version, withNM sales hitting $199.99 at the top end, followed by LP cards in the $135 range.
1Typhlosion 17: Neo Genesis First Edition (Holo Rare) – $319.50
Seizing The Top Spot
The legendary T17 Typhlosion from Neo Genesis stands alone as the best Typhlosion card in the Pokemon TCG, with an incredible pose and background combination that sets it apart from the other contenders. The background cosmos holos are a huge bonus, especially if you’re lucky enough to owna copy with a swirl.
Aswirlis a whirlpool-like dotted pattern on the holo.
Getting your hands on a first-edition copy in LP condition is a major challenge, with some copies surging to as much as $295. Unfortunately, it’s hard to find an NM copy, leaving plenty of room on the upside for the market price to increase once one is sold on TCGplayer.
