Summary

As reported byVariety, EA has announced thatThe Sims 4: Life and Death will finally add an afterlife to the series, along with reincarnation and even a Grim Reaper job, this Halloween.

Reincarnation is a huge shift for the Sims life cycle, as it adds a new feature called the “Soul’s Journey”. How this works is by giving your Sims several goals to fulfill throughout their life to earn reincarnation. Once they’re reborn, they’ll have the unique Burning Soul trait, allowing them to unlock past Childhood Development Sills, Traits, and Infant Milestones, even allowing for new interactions with past friends and family.

Don’t Fear The Reaper (He Pays Well)

The afterlife takes shape in the form of three"netherworldly" neighborhoods— Crow’s Crossing, Whispering Glen, and Mourningvale — which can be found in the new Ravenwood world. These three “have their own connections to the shadowy passage between life and what’s next,” which makes for a perfect backdrop to take up the new Reaper Profession.

“Sims with an affinity for the afterlife can become Grimterns and work their way up to Reaper as they make a career out of facilitating the next phase of life for Sims,” explained the developers. “Work with Grim at the Netherworld Department of Death and even head off into the ‘field’. Sims in this profession can experience reaper training with the all-around-good-guy-training-dummy, Kenny, maintain Grimtern Sims' scythes, practice reaping souls on practice dummies, and determine causes of death for reaped souls.

“At higher levels, Sims in this career can even determine which souls they’ll reap and which they’ll return to life. Once retrieved, souls can be placed in the Netherworld Portal to meet the soul quota. Grimterns who meet the soul quota are eligible to become Employee of the Month.”

The expansion also adds four stages of grief — Denial, Holding It Together, Anger, and Blues. You can reach out to friends, attend counseling, or take on creative activities to cope.

For those who would rather stay in their cozier neighborhoods and avoid meeting Grim until absolutely necessary, there’s another job included in this expansion — funeral director. This is part of a wider funeral overhaul that adds in-depth events akin to weddings that allow you to invite guests, dictate dress codes, and even decide on activities, the location, and the time, all to give your Sims a better send off.

Alternatively, become a Grim Reaper and bring ‘em back to life.
