Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remasteredis here, and as the name suggests, you’ll be traveling to the underworld. You play as Garcia Hotspur, an experienced demon hunter who’s on a quest to recover his kidnapped girlfriend. The game is directed by Suda51, so a wacky story premise is to be expected!
Your trek through hell won’t be easy; as dozens of games have taught us, demons are tough enemies. Thankfully, Garcia is armed to the teeth with powerful weapons, but there may be moments on your quest when the hordes prove too much to handle. Here are some tips to make sure you and Paula make it back to the land of the living.
Turn On Gyro Aiming
Hella Remasteredoffers gyro aiming, and if your system supports it, you should absolutely use it. The majority of your aiming will still be done with the Right Stick, but theadded control offered by gyroallows you tofine-tune your aim, resulting in more accurate shots. This is especially helpful when you’re trying totarget specific parts of demons' bodies.
If you don’t like it, you can always deactivate it in the settings menu.
Use Light Shot Often
The light shot isn’t just for solving environmental puzzles, it also has a practical application in combat. Shooting an enemy with it will daze them, causing them tofreeze for a brief moment; you can even upgrade the light shot toincrease the duration of the stun. This gives you time to run away if need be, or focus on other more threatening enemies for a moment.
Hitting weak enemies with a light shot can alsoset them up for execution. After they’ve been stunned, run up to them, andyou will be greeted with a button prompt. Press the button in time, and you’ll perform a stylish kill on your foe.
Lure Enemies To Exploding Barrels
As you can expect from any shooter, Shadows of the Damned hasplenty of exploding barrels to blow up. However, in this game they aren’t filled with TNT, but insteadwith light, which is deadly to demons.
A good strategy when there are many enemies on screen is tolure them over to a barrelbefore shooting it. The blast willmake short work of any fodder demonsand do serious damage to more powerful ones.
Buy Red Gems
You aren’t given many things to buywhen you visit Christopher, with your options being ammo, health pickups, and red gems. We strongly encourage you tobuy as many red gems as you can. Ammunition and drinks aremuch more plentiful in the game world, and if you play your cards right you won’t need to buy any.
Red gems are used toupgrade your arsenal and your health, making them much more helpful to you in the long run.
Buying red gems is also crucial if you want to earn the hardest trophy in the game, High in Las Vegas. It asks you to get all available red gems in one playthrough, which includes finding all 38 in the levels and purchasing 42 more.
Upgrade Weapon Capacity
When you start the game, you may find that your weapons don’t seem to have enough ammo, running through your stock of bullets quickly.
While you shouldtry switching which gun you’re using oftento not completely deplete your ammunition stores, upgrading capacity is also recommended. Improving damage and reload speed are helpful, but it’s important to make sure you have plentiful munitions first.
Horde Alcohol
In real life, alcohol can have a deleterious effect on your health, but in hell, it actually keeps you alive. If you see bottles in the environment, always pick them up. Thisprevents you from having to spend white gems on them, and ensures you’re able to survive almost any combat encounter.
Alcohol alsohelps protect you from the darkness; if you find yourself stuck in the void, drinks can restore some vitality until you find a heart or exit.
The pickup you’ll want most is absinthe, since it offers almost a full heal every time you drink it.
Melee When Demons Get Close
Shadows of the Damned’s arsenal is so fun to use that you might forget you have a melee attack. Johnson’s torch form can beused to bash demons, andholding the melee buttonwill unleash an even more powerful attack.
If enemies are in your face, it’s best to hit them with Johnson and retreat to a safe distance. Attempting toaim down sights while multiple demons swarm you will be too slow, and you open yourself up to taking serious damage.
Equip Demonio Garcia If You’re Struggling
If you find yourself having a lot of trouble progressing in the campaign, there are steps you can take to make the game less taxing. Outside restarting entirely on an easier difficulty, you may want toconsider equipping a costume.
Hella Remastered lets you equip Garcia with costumes before you load your game, and one skin,Demonio Garcia, doubles your attack power. This costume is available as soon as you boot the game up, so if you just want to blast through the underworld, this is the skin for you.
