Metaphor: ReFantaziois a fantasticallybusyRPG. There’s so much to see and do that it can easily overwhelm players once it starts to open up. But even in the early hours, there are things worth knowing that won’t necessarily be as transparent as one might prefer.

Of course, experimentation will typically pay off. Many of Metaphor’s gameplay systems are solid, no matter which choices you make along the way. But the following beginner tips are designed to get you rearing and ready to go. Some are small, some are a bit bigger. None are mandatory to know, but we hope they’re all worth your while.

Save Your Money For Idlesday

We’ll start with a strong suggestion for making the most of your hard-earned reeve. Early on,there’s a good chance you’ll feel consistently cash-strapped.You probably won’t be able to purchase every last thing you’d like for your team.

The gamedoesinform you, upon the arrival of the first Idlesday after Grand Trad’s shops are available, that now is the time to spend.Shops - even informants! - offer discounts on Idlesday, so yeah, it’s a blessing.

Trouble is,it won’t tell you this until a few daysbeforeIdlesday. If you feel the need for a few choice purchases, go right ahead. But to ease the burden of costly equipment, strongly consider holding off until then.

Unlock Purification ASAP

Speaking of blessings, the church will offer its purification services to enhance any weapons or armor designated as purifiable. What exactly is purification?

Well,by bringing Blessed Wateras well as therare equipment that’s marked in the menu as suitable for the process, the Sanctifex priest will purify them to greater heights.

Purchasing elemental attack items in Metaphor ReFantazio

This doesn’t take up your action slot for the day (or evening), so do it whenever you’d like.

There’s one catch:your Wisdom, a Royal Virtue, must reach the second rank, “Informed.“This is easy to achieve; you’ll only need aboutfour Wisdom-based actions.Consider prioritizing these first and foremost.

You just so happen to require Wisdom’s second rank to be able tospeak with Brigittaonce her quest unlocksin front of Grand Trad’s Magic Igniter shop, so it’s a two-birds-with-one-stone situation!

Stock Up On MP Restoration And Elemental Attack Items

If there are two types ofconsumable itemsthat you ought to focus on above all else, we’d say they’reMagla Pills(and their eventual superior versions) anditems which cast elemental attacks on enemies.

The former are typically available inlimited quantities. Not every item shop carries them, but many will.Peddlersmay have themas well. As for the elemental items, your main source for these is Gloamhall in Grand Trad.

Gloamhall isonly open at night. In other words, you’ll have specific windows of opportunity within which to purchase these.

We put these both in the same tip section for a reason.MP is a hard resource to manageearly on, andwhen your spellcasting Archetype(s) run out of it, you’ll have a far harder time with certain enemies.

The elemental attack items won’t help you to top off your HP, obviously. But what theycando is tosupplement your MP-consuming spells. You’ll find the longer dungeons in Metaphor: ReFantazio, like theRegalith Grand Cathedral, will be more manageable with these on tap.

Diversify Archetype Growth (But Not Too Much)

So, Archetypes. You’re going to want tospend some battling working on more than just one of them, even when you still have access to just a few. Each of these early picks:Seeker, Warrior, Knight, Mage, and Healer, are going to help out.

Strohl introduces the Warrior Archetype, while Hulkenberg brings with her the Knight. The protagonist’s contribution is Seeker. The others will come swiftly enough.

Furthermore, you’ll obtain rewards and follower rank progression with Morein several cases. You alsoneed to level up your Archetypes to reach their Adept-tier classes.

So… why, then, did we qualify this by saying you shouldn’t go overboard? It’s mainly so that you don’t feel the need to take up hours upon hours on these. Before long,Hero’s items can be acquired, often throughMore’s requestsand other activities.

These are limited, but they’re quite handy. When you use one on a character, you will be prompted to choose an Archetype; that Archetype will then gain EXP. A boon, to be sure.

Don’t Underestimate The Memorandum

This one’s for fans of Metaphor: ReFantazio’s narrative. Which, if we’re being frank, should hopefully apply to you - there’s a lot of story in this game.

TheMemorandumis essentially a codex, a dictionary, whatever you’d like to call it. It keeps tabs (literally) onNature, Magic, History, People, and Culture. It alsofills up fast.

The Memorandum can shine intriguing light on many aspects of Metaphor’s world. It isn’t simply text; it’s a guide to, well, everything. Except the stuff our guides are here for, anyway.

Set Dialogue To Auto Or To Display All At Once

This last tip’s hardly the most important, but it can be a heck of a help nonetheless. In Metaphor: ReFantazio, conversations involving dialogue selection optionsdon’t display those options on the screen untilafter the character’s current dialogue text is completed.

What does this mean, in practice? You may find yourself accidentally picking the top option without realizing itif you ever press the confirm button in preparation for moving to the next text window.

The easiest way to avoid this mishap is toset dialogue boxes to move forward to the next automatically, in which case theywon’t keep going until you’ve made your choice.

But if you’d prefer to do it manually, head into the options menu, and swap the dialogue display to show all at once.

Again, not a huge deal, so long as you never press that confirm button ahead of schedule. Yet as silly as this all sounds, you might well see what we mean!
