Webfishingmight just be the chill game you’ve been searching for. Forgetting your worries, fishing to your heart’s content, meeting new people, or chatting with friends—what’s not to love? While the game isn’t solely focused on fishing mechanics, mastering a few key details can give you an advantage.
Knowing what to do when a rain cloud appears or whether investing in lottery tickets is worth it will help you succeed in this relaxing adventure. If you’re ready, you’ll find all the beginner tips you need to become the ultimate angler in this guide.
Don’t Fish Aimlessly
While the game revolves around fishing, it’s important not to fish aimlessly. You’ve probably noticed the ‘Pawprint Point’ board in the hub area. This board tracks the tasks you’ve been working on. Since you receive all tasks automatically, all you need to do isinteract with this board to claim your rewards.
If you fish without a purpose, your task progress will slow down.To speed up, focus on fishing in areas related to your current tasks.Equipping yourself for specific tasks also helps—you’ll earn rewards not just by selling fish but also by completing tasks whenever you return to the hub.
Remember, not claiming your rewards slows your progress too.Completing tasks unlocks new levels with better rewards. For example, fishing in a lake increases that task’s level, earning you more money over time.
Which Upgrades to Get First
After selling your fish in the hub, you’ll have some money to spend on upgrades, which make your fishing rod more effective.Talk to the frog in the cabin next to the Pawprint Point boardto buy them. One thing even more important than upgrades is getting bait licenses. Higher-level bait will help you catch rarer fish.
However, focusing solely on bait licenses isn’t a great idea—you’ll also need to upgrade your rod to handle rare catches. Start by prioritizing the Catch Chance upgrade, as it reduces waiting time and increases your catches. Next, focus on the Tacklebox upgrade, so you won’t need to stop frequently to buy more bait.
Once you have those, upgrade Rod Luck to boost your bonus loot chances. In the early game, make sure to raise Rod Power to at least level three as soon as possible. You can deprioritize it later, unless you’re encountering rare fish that require more power.
Rod Speed should be the last upgrade you buy—it’s not as useful as other stats, but you can grab it if you have extra cash.
Take Advantage Of The Rain
The game features changing weather, and sometimes it rains. You’ll know it’s raining when a cloud hovers above, rain starts falling, and the screen darkens. Keep in mind thatonly the area under the cloud is affected by the rain.Rain is significant becausecertain fish only spawn during this weather.
If you plan to complete your journal—worth it for the cash and fishing rod rewards—you’ll need to catch these rain-exclusive fish:
Since the rain cloud moves, be prepared to follow it to keep fishing in the rain. Also, watch out for meteor events—you’ll hear the impact when a meteor strikes a body of water. During these events, you can catch the rare Unidentified Fish Object.
When To Upgrade Camp Levels
Besides upgrades, bait, lures, and cosmetic items, you can also invest in camp levels.Speak to the frog character to raise your camp level, which opens access to new bait, lures, and upgrades. There are four camp levels, each requiring a significant amount of money.
However, don’t rush to increase your camp level. The new items available after leveling up won’t be cheap either, so it’s better to buy what you need at your current camp level before moving on to the next.
Don’t Forget To Upgrade Your Fishing Buddies
Upgrades aren’t limited to your fishing rod—fishing buddies are also worth investing in. These buddies are essentially buckets that fish for you, divided into Saltwater and Freshwater categories. Since time is your most valuable resource, having fishing buddies catch fish while you wait improves efficiency.
If you sell all your fish at once, your two fishing buddies can catch almost as much as you do.The more you invest in them, the better they perform, even catching rare fish.Keep them close to youwhile fishing so you’re able to collect their catches along the way for a smoother fishing experience.
Bait Is the Most Important Purchase
Of all the items you may buy, bait is the most crucial. Higher-tier baitincreases your chances of encountering rare fish. Therefore, investing in bait licenses is essential. However, don’t neglect your rod upgrades—if you run into powerful fish and your rod isn’t strong enough, you’ll miss out on those catches.
Choose bait based on the fish you aim to catch. For instance, if you’re targeting Alpha-level fish, use Nautilus bait for a slim chance of success. If you still need to catch some regular fish, Worms will do the job. For a more profitable approach,high-tier bait will lead to higher earnings.
Choose The Right Lure
Luresunlock based on your camp level, and each has a unique effect. Select luresbased on the tasks you’re completing. For example, if your goal is to catch Massive, Gigantic, or Colossal fish, using a Large Lure increases your chances. If you need to catch a Treasure Chest for a task, the Magnet Lure is the best option.
Collecting a variety of lures is also a good idea, especially if you aim to complete your journal. If you’re down to just Alpha rarity fish, consider buying the Golden Hook for 9,999 dollars to improve your odds. Additionally, if you’re using expensive bait, the Efficient Lure will reduce consumption, making it a valuable long-term investment.
Metal Detector Is A Helpful Early Game Tool
Fishing isn’t the only way to earn money—you can also go treasure hunting with a metal detector. Althoughit’s not as lucrative as fishing, it can be a good focus early in the game. The detector costs 100 dollars, and when you’re close to a treasure mound,a red dot will appear above your head and blink faster the closer you get.
Treasure mounds contain fragments for accessories found in the Dock Shop. However, outside of cosmetic fragments, the items aren’t very valuable, and you may be better off focusing on fishing for better returns.
Temporary Buffs Can Be Useful
You don’t have to spend all your money on permanent upgrades.Use any extra cash to buy drinks from the vending machinein the hub. These drinks fall into four categories:
Catcher’s Cola
Provides temporary fishing-related buffs.
Themost important drinks are from the Catcher’s Cola category.Keep a few of these on hand to boost your catch rate and reel speed temporarily. Also, if you are using metal detector in early game, using speed slurpees is a good idea.
Don’t Rely On Scratch-Off Lotteries For Income
Another way to make money in the game is through scratch-off lotteries, which come in three tiers. Whilepricier tickets offer better rewards, the outcome is purely luck-based, making them unreliable as a primary income source. You could end up losing all your money.
The grand prize odds are extremely low, so stick to fishing as your main way to earn cash. If you’re comfortable risking extra funds or have already purchased all your upgrades, you can try your luck—but don’t bet on winning.
