Summary

Where there is smoke, there is likely fire, and when it comes toTony Hawk’s beloved skateboarding series, there might as well be a full on blaze. Because afterthe Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater official social media accounts (Facebook, YouTube and Twitter) updated their profiles in celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary,Tony Hawk himself went on the record to say that he’s “been talking to Activision again” and that it’s “something the fans will truly appreciate.”

Flash forward to today, and on Instagram, Mr. Hawk is once again teasing something related to the iconic skateboarding franchise. In a post commemorating the exact anniversary of when the first Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater was released (Sept. 29), Hawk concluded his celebration with this:

“I’m not supposed to tease anything else about the future of the series, but there will be a future.”

Like we said, there’s a full on blaze happening in the land of Tony Hawk.

The important question is just what exactly does “future” mean. There are a few routes that it could take.

More Skateboarding Games, Please!

The best and safest bet when it comes to the “future” of the Pro Skater series is more games. After all, there was a planned remake of Pro Skater 3 and 4 in the same vein as the Pro Skater 1 and 2 remake that hit all consoles. But that remake ended up going the way of the wayward sun.

Once Vicarious Visions merged with Blizzard, making the studio a subsidiary of Blizzard and not Activision, those plans were scrapped. However, who’s to say that those plans can’t be restarted, especially if significant work had been put into them?

Of course, perhaps that “future” doesn’t involve remaking the Pro Skater series at all.EA will be launching its Skate revival via Early Access in 2025, meaning Activision could want a competitor in the space. Only time will tell what ends up happening, but we think it’s safe to say that Tony Hawk will be back very soon.
