Summary

It feels likeUbisofthas been struggling for a win recently.Star Wars Outlawslaunched tosome pretty tepid reviews, mostly thanks to the game’s lack of polish, and while it has its fans, it’s clear thatUbisoft isn’t particularly happy with its commercial success.

Star Wars Outlaws seems to have spooked Ubisoft so much that it’s now looking at its ongoing projects under a magnifying glass. That newfound skepticism appears to be one of the main reasons behind the delay to Assassin’s Creed Shadows, which was pushed back to February 14 next year, claiming that the “learnings from Star Wars Outlaws' release” made it realize the game needs more time.

Ubisoft’s Board Is Reviewing The Company Following Assassin’s Creed Shadows Delay

It seems as though there may be a lot of problems behind the scenes at Ubisoft at the moment, which has now caused the publisher’s board of directors to take action. In its latest financial statement and update (thanks InsiderGaming), Ubisoft’s executive committee and board of directors has announced it will launch an investigation and review into the company following “recent challenges.”

“In light of recent challenges, we acknowledge the need for greater efficiency while delighting players. As a result, beyond the first important short-term actions undertaken, the Executive Committee, under the supervision of the Board of Directors, is launching a review aimed at further improving our execution, notably in this player-centric approach, and accelerating our strategic path towards a higher performing model to the benefit of our stakeholders and shareholders.”

Ubisoft then follows up that statement with a rather bizarre claim, explaining that it doesn’t agree with the “polarizing comments” made about the company in recent months. Ubisoft believes that it’s a company that makes games “for the broadest possible audience”, and is not attempting “to push any specific agenda.”

This is most likely in reference to several controversies that have surrounded both Star Wars Outlaws and Assassin’s Creed Shadows recently, asthe games feature a womananda black personas protagonists respectively. We don’t know why Ubisoft decided that now was the best time to address those comments, but it’s still a fairly disappointing statement for those that have been looking forward to Ubisoft’s recent work.
