Summary
Uncharted 4: A Thief’s Endis nearing a decade since its 2016 launch for thePlayStation 4. Yes, you read that right. It’s been nearly a decade since Nathan Drake’s epic story came to a fitting conclusion.
And in that near decade since release, few things have come as close to replicatingNaughty Dog’sblend of action, adventure, platforming, gunplay, puzzles and more. It turns out, that mish-mash of genres is something that is sorely missed,as evidenced by a massive Reddit thread titled, “This generation desperately needs its own Uncharted.”
The thread, which has over 4,000 upvotes and nearly 1,500 comments at the time of publication, laments the lack of Uncharted, or an Uncharted-like game on thePS5.
Bring Back Nathan Drake Or Someone!
“Definitely agree, Last of Us is great but so depressing,“one user wrote. “Uncharted was lighthearted fun and adventure, sometimes you just need that, especially with PS5 graphics.”
If there is one thing that gamers have discovered over the last week or so, it’s that games don’t need to be some avant-garde story.Astro Botisperfect, whimsical fun, which is exactly what games should be.
“We do need an intense, over the top action/adventure for this gen,“another user commented. PerhapsIndiana Jones and the Great Circlewill scratch that itch, thoughit’s important to remember that its developers, Machinegames, are emphasizing hand-to-hand combat over gunplay.
Meanwhile, this user had a different idea entirely. “I’d like to see the Infamous series revived,” they wrote. Certainly,Infamouswould be ripe for a revival. That’s another title that blends combat, discovery, platforming and an interesting story all into one package.
The rest of the thread is filled with similar sentiments,as well as ideas about where another Uncharted game could theoretically go. It’s worth mentioning that Uncharted might not necessarily be dead.
Gamers might recall the “Live from PlayStation” trailer that Sony produced about a year ago. That trailer featured live-action cuts of multiple exclusives, includingSpider-ManandGod of War. Hidden in that trailer was a quick cut to a young woman with a torch exploring a cave. That’s about as clear of an Uncharted homage as it gets.
Either way, it’s clear that fans are missing Nathan Drake and company. We’re right there with them, too, as Uncharted remains one of Sony’s best series of all-time.
