Summary
Saber Interactive is considering story expansions forWarhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2after a very lucrative launch period.
Space Marine 2 has proved a massive success, quickly becoming themost-played Warhammer game on Steam ever. In an interview withIGN, Saber’s chief creative officer Tim Willits spoke about what’s next for the studio and Space Marine 2.
Another Day, Another Swarm
“Our game director Dmitry Grigorenko, he has proposed some story ideas that could either be a DLC or a sequel,” Willits said. “We’re literally just catching our breath. This is two weeks out. We just need to get the dust to settle. But I can confidently say that we will not disappoint our Warhammer fans in the future. It’s too big of a success! I know that’s an obvious thing to say, but hopefully we’ll be working on Space Marine content for a long time.”
Willits followed by musing about a potential Space Marine 3, saying Saber would have to work with publisher Focus Entertainment and Games Workshop again. “We just have to figure it out, I would love to do it, yes. There are so many different factions, there are other chapters too that are interesting.”
There is certainly no shortage of facets of the Warhammer 40,000 universe to adapt, and Space Marine 2’s relatively short campaign (8-10 hours) has left players hungry for more. It’s unknown how long Saber would take to turn around a full expansion, but it’s a safe bet to say nothing will be released before the latter half of next year at the earliest.
Saber Interactive is publishing or developing several other upcoming titles, such as Stormwind Games' A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead and Jurassic Park Survival, an in-house production. The studio alsoappears to be working on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remakebut we haven’t seen anything substantial since 2021, and even then that was only a teaser trailer.
