Summary
Marvel Vs.Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classicsmakes all six 2D-era MvC games accessible for the first time. The collection is a huge milestone for the series and its passionate fanbase, including ourselves. We’ve especially enjoyed observing the evolution from the meager X-Men Children of the Atom to the over-the-top free-for-all that is Marvel Vs. Capcom 2.
Part of our retrospective playthrough included hopping into training mode and viewing the collection’s hyper combos. While these super moves cannot compare to the elaborate cinematic attacks in fighting games today, we still enjoy the ambition and imagination behind them. If you plan to play the collection, check out these astounding hyper combos!

Several classic Capcom characters received updated supers to match the power and aesthetic of Marvel’s heroes. One example is Ryu, whoseShinkuu Hadou-ken became a laser beam rivaling Cyclops’s power. Shinkuu Hadou-ken’s change from a fireball to a laser beam is neat but not as exciting as other hyper combos in MvC history.
The Shinkuu Hadou-ken becomes noteworthy in Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter, whereRyu and Ken can team up to perform aDoubleShinkuu Hadou-ken. If you’re a big Street Fighter fan, you’ll get chills seeing these brothers-in-training unleash this signature move!
The Double Shinkuu Hadou-ken is one of thefew hidden team hyper combosin MvC history. A more recent example isWinter Soldier and Captain America’s Unyielding Justicehyper combo in Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite.

There are numerous"combo-supers," or super moves that consist of long hit-strings, in MvC’s history. Spider-Man’s Crawler Assault is a well-known example. Another notable “combo-super” is Wolverine’s Weapon X. These attacks pack a punch but begin and end too quickly to leave a significant impression.
Captain America’s Final Justicestands outfrom the pack. First, Cap launches his opponent. Then, he catches them in a combo string. Finally, he lifts his opponent into the air and slams them headfirst into the ground, causing an explosive impact. This dynamic pacing makes Final Justice a satisfying attack to land and shows off one of Marvel’s titular heroes well.
While Akuma was Capcom’s first guest character in a Marvel fighting game, Darkstalker’s Anita is arguably more OP. How OP is Anita? She hasthe most lethal Infinity Combo in Marvel Super Heroes.
DuringLove For You, Anita hurls a seemingly infinite number ofdecapitated doll headsat her opponent. This combo has98 hits and causes more damage when blockedthan when it lands! It’s no wonder Anita’s banned from tournament play.
Anita is also a Special Partner in Marvel Vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes.

Darkstalkers fans are familiar with Morrigan Aensland’s insatiable appetite for excitement and pleasure. However,Eternal Darkness is arguably Morrigan’s most suggestive super combofrom any of her fighting game appearances. It’s campy, risque, bizarre, and worth seeing in action at least once.
During Eternal Darkness, Morrigan and her soul counterpart, Lilith, send a kiss toward their opponent. If the kiss lands, apink curtain draws closed while Morrigan circles her foe provocatively. When the curtain opens, the opponent lies on the ground while Morrigan bites her finger between her lips. (We’re not blushing, you’re blushing!)
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 introducedseveral new Darkstalkers to its cast, including Felicia, B.B. Hood, and Anakaris. While Felicia and B.B. Hood mostly retained their supers from previous games, Anakaris received onegiganticaddition. We’re talking about his hyper comboPharoah Illusion.
During Pharoah Illusion, Anakaris expands across the entire screen while you control his hands with the punch and kick buttons (punch controls the left hand, kicks control the right). There aren’t many super combos thatmagically transform you into a boss character. And for that, we have to give Anakaris props.
While MvC2 has the better roster, we think its predecessor has some of the best character-specific moments in the series. Several characters get new, flashy hyper combos, like Morrigan and Chun-Li. Furthermore,Zangief receives the game’s only character-exclusive crossover combination attack: Double Final Atomic Buster.
If you perform the crossover combination command (⬇️↘️➡️ + HP + HK) while controlling Zangief, his partner will jump on-screen, andthe duo will lift their opponent into the air and smash them to the ground. Magic moments like watching Gief and Wolverine perform a team command grab define Marvel Vs. Capcom’s undeniable charm.
If your introduction to Spiral wasthe X-Men animated series, you may only know her as Mojo’s six-armed technical director. However, this depiction sells her short.Spiral has many abilities, including her mastery of the dark arts and inter-dimensional travel.
Metamorphosis, Spiral’s hyper combo introduced in X-Men: Children of the Atom, expertly displays her immense power. During this attack, Spiral uses magic todisguise herself as each of COTA’s characters while she kicks the crap out of her opponent. Metamorphosis improves in MvC2 when Spiral transforms into all 28 Marvel heroes in the game!

Chun-Li’s massive, screen-filling Kikosho has been a staple in MvC since her appearance in X-Men Vs. Street Fighter. However, we do not consider it herbesthyper combo. Instead, we give that merit toShichiseisen Kykyaku, Chun-Li’s hyper combo exclusive to the first Marvel Vs. Capcom.
Shichiseisen Kykyaku is a midair hyper combo in which Chun-Li dive-kicks into her opponent. If the dive-kick lands, a still of the attack will flash onto the center of the screen. Then, in an epic flourish, several Chinese characters appear. The hyper comboconcludes with an explosion of colors in the background!
We recommend turning Light Reduction ONbefore viewing this hyper combo if you are sensitive to flashing lights.
We’re unsure if anything is more badass than stealing someone else’s hyper combo and using it against them. Oh, wait! Do you know what is more badass than that?STEALING AND USING ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL SUPERS IN FIGHTING GAME HISTORY.
Did you know thatRogue can perform Akuma’s famous Shun Goku Satsu (a.k.a: the Raging Demon) in X-Men Vs. Street Fighter?First, you must fight Akuma and absorb his powers with either Power Drain or Goodnight Sugar. Then, complete the famous Raging Demon input and let it rip!
Until MvC2, Capcom’s crossover series only featured characters from the company’s fighting and action games. Therefore, survival-horror iconJill Valentine’s introduction to the series was a huge surprise. Her inclusion forged a path for characters from other genres, like Ace Attorney’s Phoenix Wright, to appear in future entries.
Jill’s move set ischock full of Resident Evil references, including zombie attacks, a green herb assist, and a cameo from one of the horror series’s biggest baddies. DuringCode: T-002, Jill observes in terroras the bio-human weapon, Tyrant, emerges from the ground and mauls her opponent!
Here’s a fun Easter Egg.Perform Rocket Launcher ( ⬇️↘️➡️ + 2K ) at the end of Code: T-002before Tyrant leaves to eliminate him in a fiery explosion!
