Biowareis one of the most well-known developers in the gaming industry. Having been created back in 1995, Bioware has become a leading face in RPG design since its inception, though have geared themselves towards more real-time action with more recent games.

Dragon Age and Mass Effect are easily the most iconic of Bioware’s series, though they have made countless other games you might not have even heard of. Mass Effect didn’t start until 2007, after all. So just how many games has Bioware made, and have they always been RPGs?

Which Console Has The Most Bioware Games?

RPGs have, for the longest time, been seen as a PC genre, especially when it comes to the point-and-click variants. These were some of Bioware’s most common games earlier in its existence with the likes of Baldur’s Gate and Neverwinter Nights. But is PC where the majority of its games have released?

Yes, actually. In total, of all the games that Bioware has developed, only three of them have not released on PC. Mind you, a distinct change came around the period of Jade Empire where Bioware prioritised console development over PC. This was only for a brief period, with simultaneous PC releases occurring again from Dragon Age: Origins

Which Bioware Series Has The Most Games?

Of all the games that Bioware has made, which series has the most entries? It’s not really a surprising answer, though it’s worth taking a quick examination of Baldur’s Gate and Neverwinter Nights first.

Collectively, these games take place within the Forgotten Realms setting of Dungeons and Dragons. These games have had copious new entries, from Icewind Dale to Dark Alliance, though none developed by Bioware beyond the initial trio they created. So while the games they made have spurned plenty of sequels, around eight or so, they’re more within the greater D&D setting than Bioware’s own.

So for Bioware’s own games that they fully created the setting for,Mass Effect and Dragon Age are both tied with five currently released games each. You could bump Mass Effect up to six if you wanted to count the Legendary Edition, though that seems unfair. However, another brand-new Mass Effect game is already in development, so you could technically already edge it ahead of Dragon Age in that regard.

How Many Games Has Bioware Made In Total?

Bioware’s earlier games began as point-and-click RPGs,primarily based within the world of D&D.In fact, pre-existing IPs were Bioware’s forte until Jade Empire, it’s first truly original game in a long time. It was not, however, its first.

That honour goes to Shattered Steel, a mech game. Pulling from other popular games of the style at the time such as MechWarrior,Shattered Steel provided a solid start for Bioware, even if it was a direction they would never actually return to.

After its point-and-click RPGs,Bioware would slowly start shifting more and more to real-time combat, dropping any tactical elements entirely by Anthem. The Veilguard will be clawing back some tactical elements, though the focus on more character-action style combat still makes it a very frenetic experience.

Anthem was Bioware’s first original IP in a decade, and with a new Mass Effect on the horizon, we may well be waiting over a decade for them to create a new IP again if they can break the curse of being a two-game studio.

In total though,Bioware has made 20 games. While Mass Effect and Dragon Age both contain extra smaller games, these were developed externally by others and are not included as a result.

You couldboost that number up to 21 gamesif you wanted to count the Mass Effect: Legendary Edition and its substantial changes.
