Sonic has always been as much about speed as it is about building up your momentum. That’s the key difference between Classic and Modern Sonic, and that’s what makesSonic X Shadow Generationsso enticing as a package. Shadow feels like a combination of the both.

Rail Canyon is the second set of Acts for Shadow to complete. As you probably picked up from the name, a good portion of these levels is dedicated to grinding on rails and avoid trains. There are some fun challenges here, so let’s help you get through them.

How To Get An S Rank In Rail Canyon

Rail Canyon hasa whole lot of grindingfor you to get through, and it requires some pinpoint precision to nail some of those rail transitions. The use of momentum is pretty importantin reaching some of the higher routes in these levels, though you’ll want to be careful inmaintaining your Boost gaugeto make sure you’re never too low when a train is chasing you.

Rail Canyon Act 1 S Rank

Rail Canyon Act 1 doesn’t have too many special tricks to it. There are plenty of sections wheresome rather malicious trains will try to track you down, though as long as you stay on the right rails, you should be safe in this regard.

What you really want tofocus on are your jumps. Plenty of the rails have spiked balls on them that will have you easily losing Rings.Rings are a bonus contributor to your rank, so you want to keep as many on you as you may. You do have unlimited lives, though having to reset to a checkpoint wastes a bit too much time.

Another struggle added in this Act areelectrified enemies. They can be disabled with just a singleDoom Spear, though when you’re running at high speed it’s easy to miss them and to have Shadow plummet to his doom with a misplaced Homing Attack. Don’t be afraid toslow down a bitsometimes to check your surroundings.

You will briefly be taken to a Radical Highway section near the end of the level. This plays like previous Radical Highway segments, so there’s nothing too new here. The electrified enemies still appear so have your Doom Spear at the ready. The same applies during the skydiving section. You canuse Doom Spear to lock the Doom Eyes in placeto make your descent easier.

Those are all the major struggles. Beating the level with a score ofat least 40,000 and a time under five minutesshould net you an S Rank, with a Perfect Clear without deaths bumping it up to an S Rank.

Rail Canyon Act 2 S Rank

Rail Canyon Act 2 has no Radical Highway section, keeping the level much more consistent, though isexclusively comprised of side-scrolling segments. This can make it harder to see what’s ahead of you, sotry not to boost too muchso you can keep a good eye on your surroundings.

What you do want to focus on here isChaos Control. It saves you precious time, but also protects you from many of the destructible platforms in the level. As such, you’ll want to bedefeating enemies as much as possibleto keep it filled, and take advantage of any Chaos Control Shortcuts you come across.

When it comes to the grind rail loops, make sure totime your jumps wellso you don’t fall to your death and hit any electrified enemies.

Beyond that, Act 2 is quite short and sweet. Complete the level with ascore of 40,000 or more and under 2:30 minutes, and you should get your A rank, and a Perfect Clear bringing it up to an S Rank.
