Summary

Overpriced cosmetics in live-service video games are nothing new. That said, it is always noteworthy when a game releases a cosmetic that is so expensive, it really makes you scratch your head. Case in point,World of Warcraft’srecently released Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur, affectionately named the Bruto Mount.

Originally released on Thursday, the mount is “adorned with a 20th Anniversary themed harness encrusted with gems representing World of Warcraft’s expansions.”It’s available through early January, and it costs a whopping $90.

Of course, while we love to meme on the cosmetic, it turns out the Bruto Mount is massively popular. As IGN reported earlier, it is so popular that the Auction House is out of WoW Tokens, owing to the fact that players were attempting to translate gold to real-life dollars.

Not only that, but as many Redditors can attest, players in droves are flexing their newest mount on the in-game streets. Some have even theorized that it could be one of Blizzard’s bestsellers ever.

At $90 a pop, it’s easy to see how this could be a massive moneymaker for the MMO. That said, not everyone is on board with dishing out $90 for the mount, and one fan has even gone as far as to create a website to let others find out if their friends have purchased the mount.

Finding Out Is Free

The “Did my husband buy Bruto?” websiteaims to answer that very question. It’s a simple user interface, asking for the curious person to input the Region, Realm and Character Name to find out whether they were one of the seemingly many to splurge on the Bruto Mount.

As the website cheekily notes, “We’re not liable for any divorce papers served due to this website.” Of course, all of this is in good fun, and the website makes a concerted effort to let players know to not use the tool as a means to harass someone for purchasing the mount. “At the end it’s just a game,” the creator notes in their disclaimer. Either way, it’s an interesting development made even more fascinating by the ability to snitch on your friends for free.
