It’s finally happening.Xenoblade Chronicles Xis coming to Nintendo Switch. Not just a port of the game that originally launched on the Wii U, but a Definitive Edition that will include remastered visuals, more story content, and other stuff that Nintendo hasn’t clued us in on yet. In typical Nintendo fashion, the reveal that Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition exists and is coming to Switch was revealed out of nowhere on an otherwise unassuming Tuesday afternoon.
Not only did Nintendo reveal the remaster via a debut trailer for the beefed-up port, but it immediately opened pre-orders. That’s where the good news that a game many have been waiting for on Switch for years is finally coming gets even better. The Definitive Edition will be getting a physical version too and pre-orders for both it and the digital edition areavailable now ready for the game’s release on June 28, 2025.

The most obvious difference between the physical version of Xenoblade Chronicles X and the digital version is the former will be on a game card and the latter will simply be available through the eShop. There’s is a less obvious difference between the two, though. If you sacrifice your want to own a physical copy of the Definitive Edition thenyou’ll get a 14-day free trial for Nintendo Switch Online. The original version of the game on Wii U included online elements, so you will presumably need an NSO subscription to access those elements in the Definitive Edition.

The release date of the Xenoblade remaster suggests it might be a cross-gen title, though. The Definitive Edition will launch exclusive on Nintendo Switch on June 08, 2025, and Nintendo has promised it will reveal something more concrete about the Switch’s successorby the end of the current financial yearwhich comes to a close 11 days after the Definitive Edition’s launch.
