Summary

Stellar Bladeis getting what might be the most unsurprising crossover event ever later this year, as it was announced duringPlayStation’slatest State of Play thata Nier: Automata collaboration is in the works. Details are sparse at the moment, but we know that a 2B outfit will be added to the game, along with some other cosmetics and a Pod outfit.

We know that Nier director Yoko Taro is a big fan of Stellar Blade, claiming thatthe game was better than Nier Automata after playing it for a little bit. It’s also very obvious that Stellar Blade director Kim Hyung-tae was inspired byNier Automatawhile making the game, so a crossover almost felt inevitable. All Shift Up had to do was wave a big bag of money in front of Yoko Taro, and he was on board.

Before you take up your keyboard in defense of Taro, those aren’t my words. Those are the words ofthe official Nier Twitter account(thanksGamesRadar), which claimed after the collaboration announcement that it would “gladly say yes to anything for money”. While we have no way of knowing whether this was tweeted by Taro, it’s definitely got his trademark quirkiness and love for cold, hard card written all over it.

Yoko Taro Is A Slave To Capitalism

Funnily enough, this isn’t the first time that Yoko Taro has been refreshingly honest about his relationship with money. All the way back in 2022, when the director was asked whether he’d consider crossing over with more games following collabs with Final Fantasy 14 and Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds,Taro claimed that he is a “slave to capitalism”, and that he will “do anything as long as I am paid.” Truer words have never been spoken.

It’s also worth noting that Yoko Taro is well known for saying completely bizarre things though, so it’s best not to take these words too literally. For example, in a video showing off the upcoming Atlus gameMetaphor: ReFantazio, Taro was asked for his thoughts on the game after playing the demo. He responded by saying thatthe game was so stylish that he “almost soiled himself”. Metaphor might be that good, but I’m hoping that Taro was simply exaggerating.
